Lock Bumping Facts:

90+% of American doors use an old style cylinder lock which is vulnerable to bumping.

Your door lock can even be lock bumped by a 10 year old child.

Anyone can make a bumping key in 5 minutes or less.

When a bumping key is used to break into your house then there is no signs of forced entry or damage to the lock. This makes the
insurance companies very weary in paying for the claim. You could loose everything and not get compensated because of lock bumping
and bumping keys.

Chances are that the deadbolt lock on your door is not as safe as many people would tend to believe. Recent media coverage
throughout the US is trying to raise awareness of a phenomenon called lock bumping, which essentially allows anyone with a key with a
simple modification to have a pass key to essentially anyone’s home or office.

This blank key or "Bump Key" is simply placed in the lock of any unsuspecting home, or business owner, and then lightly tapped with the
handle of a screwdriver handle, or any blunt object while the key is twisted.A few light taps, a twist and seconds later a perpetrator will
have gained entry into virtually any home or office “protected” by 90 percent of the locks on the market.

There are a few simple ways to prevent this from happening. Installing an alarm system, buying a pet, or better lighting around your
home. But all of the mentioned can be costly when the easiest solution is spending a little more and installing a better lock.

Lock Bumping History :

In the 1970's, locksmiths in Denmark shared a technique for knocking or bumping on a lock cylinder while applying slight pressure to the
back of the lock plug. When the pins would jump inside the lock cylinder, the plug would be able to slide out freely and disassemble the
lock quickly. The use of a bumping key was not introduced until some time later and was first recognized as a potential lock security issue
around 2002-2003 in Europe. Now lock bumping and bump keys are sweeping the internet and America.

The bump key is a new threat to the security of conventional mechanical lock. Bump keys are easy to make and can be created very
quickly. With a bump key it will take only 1 minute or less for the intruder to turn the lock and open the door to your house or business
via the bumping key .
The pin tumbler is most commonly used for lock bumping. In this type of lock, an outer casing has a cylindrical hole in which the plug is
housed. To open the lock, the plug must rotate. The bump key pushes the pins up for a split second so that the plug can turn.
